Fraglia Vela Riva is powered by Suzuki
Riva del Garda – Fraglia Vela Riva, founded by Gabriele D’Annunzio in 1928, is one of the most active sailing clubs at an international level. Located in the park of Riva del Garda, facing the Canale della Rocca and the 13th century fortress, it boasts a Guinness World Record with the Meeting del Garda Optimist, the largest single-class regatta in the world, which has over twelve hundred young people registered every year. Fraglia Vela Riva also received the CONI Silver Star and Gold Star honors for sporting merit and the President Development Award from World Sailing.
Suzuki, a multinational company, leader in the production of cars, motorcycles and outboard engines, was born in 1909 from an entrepreneurial idea by Michio Suzuki, who, in the town of Hamamatsu, Japan, built a factory for the production of textile looms. In 1920 the Suzuki Loom Works laboratory became Suzuki Loom Manufacturing Co, where the first motorized bicycle, the Power Free, was produced; the first automobile, the Suzulight; the first outboard, the D55. From then on, industrial activity in the different sectors has continued its incessant path of growth, focusing on technology, reliability, design and innovation.
Suzuki is also committed to designing environmentally friendly products and technologies that reduce consumption and emissions. The commitment to eco-sustainability is aimed not only at products, but at completely rethinking all its activities, using every resource available without impacting the environment.
Suzuki therefore presented the “Suzuki Environmental Vision 2050” plan which focuses on four significant environmental themes (limitation of climate change, air conservation, conservation of water resources and circulation of resources) and which has 2050 as its end point. , the time limit within which one undertakes to achieve important objectives:
– the creation of products that emit less CO₂, with the aim of reducing harmful emissions by up to 90%
– the purification of the water used for production before it is discharged, for a sustainable use of water resources, especially where these are limited, up to the point of completely reducing the use of water in the industrial process;
– energy saving in the production cycle with the use of renewable energy in all plants around the world, to limit climate change;
– the circular use of products that use natural resources thanks to the recycling and treatment of production waste.
This program embraces the management line of Fraglia Vela Riva which, in its activity of promoting sailing, has always paid great attention to environmental protection, starting from the waters of Garda and its ecosystem, focusing on the use of geopositioned buoys and on tools such as the Seabin, waste collection baskets that float in surface water.
Sharing these values gave birth to the new partnership between Suzuki and Fraglia Vela Riva.
Fraglia Vela Riva has chosen Suzuki outboards to equip the Focchi inflatable boats in its company fleet. Among these outboards, there are:
– the Suzuki DF140B, equipped with the #lavalacqua system (Suzuki Micro Plastic Collector), a system capable of filtering microplastics dissolved in water, simply by sailing;
– the new license-free DF40A RR, the only outboard in its category that features an oil bath distribution chain, with automatic tensioner, which does not require periodic maintenance.
The collaboration is also made possible thanks to the support of the Special Motor Service dealer in Verona who will take care of the maintenance of the Suzuki outboards.
The announced partnership will also have scientific implications, thanks to the study of the residues filtered by the Suzuki #lavalacqua system, and will also be reflected in the promotion of “Educational” events reserved for younger people, during which topics such as the environment and ‘green’ technologies will be discussed and organize cleaning activities of public spaces, such as beaches.
“The activities promoted by the club, relating both to the Sailing School and to competitive events, are closely connected with the reliability of the vehicles used by coaches, volunteers and professionals: from this point of view, the Suzuki outboards that we have had in use over the years have proven to be unique in terms of performance and reliability. Features supported by technology that aims to safeguard the environment and which have laid the foundations for the birth of a ‘natural’ partnership between Suzuki and Fraglia Vela Riva.” this is the comment of Andrea Camin, president of the Rivano association.
“The partnership with the historic and prestigious sailing club – declares Paolo Ilariuzzi Director of the Motorcycle and Marine Division – is a source of pride for Suzuki, which has the opportunity to cooperate in sustainable projects and motorise the club’s vehicles with outboard engines which, thanks to the #consumameno system (Suzuki Lean Burn), guarantee low consumption and above all low CO2 emissions. Our engines are also equipped with resonance chambers that muffle external noise, offering greater comfort during navigation and respect for the environment”.
