Andrea Demurtas wins the Selezione Interzonale Optimist
Riva del Garda – A capable Race Committee, a competitive fleet and favourable weather conditions have made the fortune of the Optimist International Selection that Fraglia Vela Riva organised over the past weekend.
Over one hundred and sixty sailors gathered at the clubhouse in Via Maroni, coming from the I, XIV and XV Zones of the Italian Sailing Federation, in search of qualification for the First National Selection, scheduled in Marina di Ravenna on the first weekend of April, an event that will select the members of Team Italy in view of the European and World Championships.
We were talking about the excellent work of the Race Committee which, chaired by Giovanni Colucci and supported by the wisdom of Fraglia Vela Riva’s boatswain, Fausto Maroni, managed the operations on the water with extreme professionalism, bringing home seven long and competitive races, which fully satisfied the expectations of coaches and sailors.
The home athlete Andrea Demurtas prevailed, with a margin of two points over Artur Brighenti of Acquafresca Sport Center and seven over the other Fragliotto Jesper Karlesen. Demurtas controlled the rankings since the first day and secured the victory thanks to four firsts of the day. Leandro Scialpi of the Centro Nautico Bardolino and Matteo Adducci of the LNI of Mandello del Lario completed the top five. The best girl was Annalie Meoni, representative of Fraglia Vela Malcesine who placed tenth overall. In addition to them, thirty-five other athletes also earned their pass to Marina di Ravenna.
With this Optimist Interzonal over, attention now shifts to the novelty of the season, which will be followed by the most classic of main events: the Rothoblass Sprint Cup will open the program of the 43rd Garda Optimist Meeting, which also includes the 11th Country Cup.
