Fraglia Vela Riva and its competitive teams are ready for a 2025 full of events
Riva del Garda – With the long winter break now coming to an end, Fraglia Vela Riva is preparing to resume its activities at full speed, even if the season has already begun for the Sailing Team.
With the first general meeting attended by athletes, members and families, the five competitive teams of Fraglia Vela Riva were presented – one of the few Italian clubs to field a team of more than 60 athletes, in the Optimist Cadetti, Optimist Juniores, RS Feva, 29er and ILCA4, ILCA6 and ILCA7 classes. The teams met together with their respective coaches: Mauro Berteotti (Sports Director and ILCA), Luigi Rago (29er), Chiara Degli Angioli (RS Feva), Benedetta Boniotti (Optimist), Marco Giangrande (Optimist) and the new entry Denise Frigerio (Optimist). After an initial training session, the event continued with a meeting attended by members, athletes and parents, during which Sports Director Mauro Berteotti and Councilor Paolo Matteotti illustrated the season program and the regatta calendar.
On this occasion, President Andrea Camin awarded the nomination of honorary members to six Fraglia Vela Riva members, giving them exclusive membership cards. The following were nominated by Fraglia Vela Riva: Admiral Luciano Dassatti, Lawyer Bruno Ballardini, former President of the club, and Olympians Angela Baroni (Athens 2004), Chiara Benini Floriani (Paris 2024), Lorenzo Brando Chiavarini (Paris 2024) and Gianni Torboli (Atlanta 1996).
“This is the highest recognition of our club – explains Andrea Camin – and is awarded to those who, with their commitment or actions, have left an indelible mark on our association. It is a way to pay homage to our excellences who are a beautiful example for our athletes and for all of us every day“.
This year too, the Fraglia Vela Riva regatta calendar promises to be busy, with international level events that will follow one another from March to the end of October. The season opens with the “Trofeo Faccenda – Youth Centenary Regatta” (7-9 March), followed by the “Rothoblaas – Sprint Race” (12-13 April), a new and dynamic knockout competition reserved for the Optimist class. Following, the “11th Country Cup” (16 April) and the “43rd Lake Garda Meeting Optimist” (17-20 April), then the third stage of the Italia Cup ILCA (9-11 May). Also standing out are the two European Championships for the youth classes 29er (1-8 July) and RS Feva (2-5 October). There will be no shortage of appointments with the one-design classes: the Club Swan 28 (23-25 July), the Melges 24 (23-25 May), the RS21 (11-13 July) and the J/70 (18-20 July) which will stop in Riva del Garda, as will the 69F and M32 boats. The Riva Cup, a multi-class regatta with a European scope, and the Fraglia Cup, reserved for yachtsmen, have also been confirmed.
“With the gathering of the Sailing Team – concludes Camin – in Fraglia we start with the usual enthusiasm for the new season. Our athletes will be, as always, followed by high-level coaches, in an environment that values aggregation and sports growth. On the organizational front, our staff and volunteers will face challenging but satisfying months, especially on the occasion of events with record numbers such as the Garda Lake Meeting Optimist, the 29er and the ILCA. Our greatest satisfaction? Seeing our athletes grow year after year, always maintaining the spirit and enthusiasm that led them to start. And for this I thank all those who work to make each event an unforgettable experience, volunteers, parents, members and last but not least employees and collaborators“.
