The first races of the Gold Fleet determine a change at the top of the 29er Eurocup Finals
Riva del Garda – A fresh and persistent Peler allowed Valentina Bravi, President of the Race Committee of the Alfa course, to complete three more races valid for the 29er Eurocup Finals, the first useful for defining the hierarchies of the Gold Fleet, which was accessed by the best thirty-three crews emerging from the six selection races held between Thursday and Friday in Riva del Garda.
Today’s results tell of a new leader: the Hungarians Soma Kis-Szölgyémi and András Sámuel Juhász (today 7-11-5, qualification 12), entered in the Gold Fleet by virtue of the mere 6 points collected during the qualifications, struggled more than expected to find the right pace and were overtaken by Antonina Puchowska and Mateusz Gasiorowski (3-1-6, Q 6). For its part, the Polish duo, who were fifth after the first two days and are the best mixed crew, raced following a tactical approach that was at times unusual for Garda but, at least judging by the results, effective. No big deal for the aforementioned Hungarians, who were certainly disappointed to have lost the provisional leadership, but focused on the possibility of triumphing in the seasonal ranking, of which, on the eve of the trip to Lake Garda, they occupied second place behind the absent Lewandowska-Krolik.
The provisional podium is completed by the best Under 17s of the Garda series: the German brothers Lucas and Moritz Hamm (2-4-14, Q 10), protagonists from the initial stages and interested in the battle for the top positions in the ranking list, of which they occupy third place.
The provisional top five includes the Swiss Huber-Berger (5-2-8, Q 24) and the Danes Holt-Sloth (5-2-8, Q 21) while the best Italian pair, Montesano-Coslovich (4-33-1, Q9), is sixth and is waiting for the second discard to get rid of the terrible partial of today’s second race and relaunch its attack on the top of the standings, where, until yesterday evening, they occupied second place.
It is worth noting that nine different nations are represented in the top ten, demonstrating the levelling that exists within the Class.
Organized by Fraglia Vela Riva, in collaboration with the International 29er Class Association, and attended by a fleet of over one hundred and thirty crews, the 29er Eurocup Finals will end tomorrow with the last races (at 8:30) and with the awards ceremony, scheduled at the clubhouse of the Riva association.
